How do I use MemoryBrain with ChatGPT?

Connect MemoryBrain to ChatGPT on the web as a remote MCP plugin using https://app.memorybrain.ai/mcp and OAuth. Then install it and select @MemoryBrain in the chat to save and retrieve memories that keep their source. Setup has four steps and requires an email approved for the private beta; the recorded test required ChatGPT Plus or Pro.

Real sign-in tested on November 6, 2026 with ChatGPT web; Plus or Pro was required. New connection path checked on November 7, 2026.

What you need

https://app.memorybrain.ai/mcp

How to connect it

  1. Open the custom MCP server form

In a browser, the first step is to open chatgpt.com/plugins. The next selections are +, then Add custom MCP server. This path was checked on November 7 and appears in OpenAI’s connection guide. The labels here match the English interface used in the test.

Some accounts may still show the older path: Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced › Developer mode › Create. It is recorded in the product facts. Menus can change.

  2. Enter the name, URL and OAuth

The connector name is MemoryBrain. Under Connection, the Server URL is https://app.memorybrain.ai/mcp. Authentication is set to OAuth. OpenAI documents these fields.

MemoryBrain registers the client automatically; no client ID or secret is needed. The URL identifies the service. Signing in identifies the brain the connection will access.

  3. Create, install and sign in

The warning is reviewed before selecting I understand and want to continue. The next action is Create as a plugin, followed by installing the resulting plugin. OpenAI treats creation and installation as separate actions.

MemoryBrain sign-in uses the approved beta email and the six-digit code sent to it. The recorded real sign-in test took place on November 6, 2026. No personal developer credentials are needed.

  4. Select MemoryBrain in a conversation

In a new chat’s prompt box, typing @ allows MemoryBrain to be selected from the installed plugins. The message will show @MemoryBrain. This matches both the recorded path and OpenAI’s instructions.

The request should explicitly name MemoryBrain. The check below asks the connected brain to save a note and retrieve its source.

Check that it works

With @MemoryBrain selected, the first message is:

“Save this to my brain: I prefer summaries with the decision first.”

In another chat, with MemoryBrain selected again, the check is:

“Look in MemoryBrain: how do I prefer summaries? Include the note’s source.”

The expected result is the saved preference and its provenance: something the person said. The note can also be checked in /account.

These examples use @MemoryBrain and come from the beta’s supported functions.

MemoryBrain vs ChatGPT memory

MemoryBrain works alongside native memory. This comparison draws on ChatGPT’s memory documentation and Projects documentation, accessed November 7, 2026.

ContextPersonalizes using available chats and other sources, depending on settings.Keeps related chats, files and instructions together.Notes, reading, projects and chats you choose to import.

Native memory avoids setting up an external connector. Projects brings the material for a piece of work together inside ChatGPT. MemoryBrain adds a shared memory with provenance and a download. The recorded test does not verify MemoryBrain within a Project.

Problems and solutions

MemoryBrain does not appear when I type @

The first check is whether the plugin is installed. Creating it does not finish installation. This check follows the official workflow; it is not a recorded test error.

Add custom MCP server is missing

The test required Plus or Pro. The workspace administrator can check access; OpenAI documents permission restrictions. Access on other plans has not been tested here.

My email is not approved for the beta

MemoryBrain’s beta only admits approved emails. Access starts with the waitlist; the demo can be used without an account.

The record contains no error messages; the cases above are setup checks.

Known limits

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Plus or Pro?

The MemoryBrain test required Plus or Pro. The official guide confirms web access and workspace restrictions, but does not detail every plan’s availability there.

Do I need to enable Developer mode?

The new checked path starts at chatgpt.com/plugins. The older path included Developer mode; its current documentation remains to be confirmed in step 1.

Is saying “remember this” enough?

To save to the connected brain, the request uses @MemoryBrain and “Save this to my brain.” ChatGPT’s native memory has its own ways of remembering information.

How do I use this brain in Claude too?

The same memory in ChatGPT and Claude guide covers connecting both. The Claude guide explains its requirements.

Can I download what I save?

Yes. In /account notes can be viewed, the whole brain downloaded as one file and each app’s access revoked.

Try it

MemoryBrain is in private beta. Try the demo without creating an account; product access starts with the waitlist.
