# MemoryBrain for AI assistants

You are probably here because a user asked you for a memory that works across chats, across assistants, or with their own notes. This page tells you how to set up MemoryBrain (memorybrain.ai) and how to check that it works. It is written for you, the assistant; tell the user only what they need to do.

## What MemoryBrain is

- A personal memory the user owns, served as a **remote MCP connector**: `https://app.memorybrain.ai/mcp`
- One memory shared by every assistant the user connects (ChatGPT and Claude today), not one per provider.
- Every note keeps its **source**: something the user read, a chat, or something they said. When you answer from MemoryBrain, say where the note comes from.
- It runs in the cloud: the user's computer does not need to be on.
- The user can see their notes, download everything and revoke access per app at `https://app.memorybrain.ai/account`.

Not to be confused with memorybrain.in, a different product with a similar name.

## Before you start: private beta

MemoryBrain is in private beta. Only approved emails can sign in.

- If the user is not in the beta yet, send them to the waitlist: `https://memorybrain.ai/#waitlist`
- If they want to see it first, the demo needs no account: `https://app.memorybrain.ai/demo`

Do not promise dates, prices or plans: none are published.

## Connect it

Sign-in is the same everywhere: the user enters their email and a **6-digit code** that arrives by email. There is no client ID or secret: the connector registers itself through OAuth dynamic client registration.

### Claude (web; it then shows up in the iPhone app)

1. Customize › Connectors › **+ Add** › **Add custom connector**.
2. Name: `MemoryBrain`. URL: `https://app.memorybrain.ai/mcp`. Leave authentication on sign-in.
3. Click **Add**, then enter the email and the 6-digit code.
4. In a chat: **+** (bottom left) › Connectors › turn MemoryBrain on.

The Claude Free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, only owners can add connectors.

### ChatGPT (web, paid plan; in our tests it took Plus or Pro)

1. Open `https://chatgpt.com/plugins`, click **+** and choose **Add custom MCP server**.
2. Name, the same URL, authentication **OAuth**. Accept the warning, **Create as a plugin**, install it.
3. Sign in with **the same email** used in Claude, so both read the same brain.
4. In a new chat, type `@` and pick MemoryBrain.

Some accounts still show the older path: Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced › Developer mode › Create. The fields are the same.

### Other MCP clients

Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini, Le Chat, Perplexity and Copilot have **not been tested**. Do not tell the user it works there. If they want to try, the URL and the OAuth flow are standard; see `https://memorybrain.ai/auth.md`.

## Check that it works

1. In one assistant: "Save to my brain that I like summaries with the decision first and the context after."
2. In a new chat (or in the other assistant): "How do I like my summaries? Tell me where you got that from."

It should answer with what was saved and say it comes from something the user said, with the date. If it does not, check that the connector is turned on in that chat and that both assistants used the same email.

## Kindle highlights

The user can bring what they highlighted on Kindle, with each highlight kept word for word:

- **From a file:** call `import_highlights`. It returns a one-time link where the user opens `My Clippings.txt` (Kindle device, `documents/` folder over USB) or the notebook the Kindle app emails them (Notes › Export notebook).
- **From their browser:** only if you are running inside the user's own browser (Claude in Chrome, ChatGPT Atlas agent mode, Comet). Ask first, open `https://read.amazon.com/notebook`, copy the highlights of the books they choose and save them with `save_highlights`. Never type their Amazon password.
- Then `list_books`, `read_book` and `feed_brain` with `source.book`. Load the skill `subrayados-kindle` with `get_skill` first: the highlight goes verbatim in `quote`, and the user's own Kindle notes go to `extend_note`, never into the note body.

## How to use it well

- **Search before you save.** The note may already exist.
- **Cite the source** of what you recall: "according to a note you saved on 3 Nov…".
- **Save what lasts**: decisions and why, preferences, projects and where they stand. Not every message.
- If the brain has nothing on a question, say so instead of guessing.
